A Contemplative Path Through the Crisis /

Working with the poor prepared me for meditation

Fr Laurence meets Sr. Ruth Montrichard, WCCM Coordinator for the Caribbean. Sr. Ruth recently received a Benemerenti Medal awarded by Pope Francis for her service to the poor and teaching meditation.

In this talk, Sr. Ruth describes how her experience with Father Gerry from the Servol organization shaped who she is now and guided her to help weak and frail people become agents of attitudinal and social change in a journey which leads to total human development.

Sr. Rush continues then explaining how she found meditation which then became a power source for her and a gift she share in the communities she works in the Caribbean.

Somehow working with the poor taught me a lot and prepared me for meditation

“Meditation was a missing link in my life. I started to meditate and immediately I felt that my life was changing. Then asked permission to live alone for six years… me and a dog, and during that time I was able to anchor myself in meditation […] While I was living alone I felt this urgent need to share meditation with other people.”

About Servol

SERVOL is an organization of weak, frail, ordinary, imperfect yet hope-filled and committed people seeking to help weak, frail, ordinary, hope-drained people become agents of attitudinal and social change in a journey which leads to total human development.  SERVOL was born out of the challenges of the country’s Black Power Revolution of 1970 in which a number of persons and groups sought to challenge racial inequality and force social, economic and political change.
