Liz Watson, a long standing meditator, former UK National Coordinator, meets in conversation with Alex Holmes, also a meditator and WCCM National Coordinator in Scotland. Alex has been a volunteer amongst the refugee community in Calais, northern France, since 2016. In this conversation, Alex explains his involvement with the refugees and what drove him to get involved in Calais.
One of the questions posed by Liz during the talk is about his use of the term ‘accompaniment’, accompanying refugees rather than working with them? Alex responds that accompaniment is as much about ‘being’ as ‘doing’, about presence. If you want to be an effective accompanier, or companion, you need to put yourself to one side, be as fully present to those you are with and allow for something much greater than you to come through you. This is one of the important lessons he has learnt through his practice of Christian Meditation.
‘Meditation. There is only one true hope in the intimate arms of the intimate love in Christ. A relationship beyond boundaries, a learning to be at home in the present with the ever present Spirit’
