A Contemplative Path Through the Crisis /

Portrait: Art Show in a Time of Crisis

by Paul Taylor

This painting began recently as an abstract work , an exploration of what black and white oil would produce. It seemed to be going nowhere and out of frustration I turned it up side down and straight away saw a face looking at me so I decided it could become a portrait of some unknown man.

As I continued to work more and more I had the feeling that it was Jesus and then I noticed a second accidental being in the body of Jesus. Some see the indwelling face , some don’t but one of my neighbour who has no religious background saw it immediately when he visited my studio and couldn’t take his eyes off the picture.

I met him a few days later and he said that he had been deeply moved by the experience and wondered if he could buy it off me. I was so happy to know it had affected him in this way and so I asked if he would make a donation to the WCCM which he was only too happy to do. I will miss having Jesus with me in my studio in this way.

Judi and Paul Taylor are the international coordinators for the WCCM Friends program and in this video they give an overview of the project Art Show in a Time of Crisis

“There was a sense it was time to explore some of the aspects of beauty which has been nourishing for us during these times of crisis and the beauty of the offering online of the Contemplative Path Through the Crisis site’ says Judi.

All the art exhibited has been produced by meditators and donated for this online art show.

Please note that the project is now also set up for international purchases. Free postage worldwide during the month of November.

You can learn more about the project from the Art Show in a Time of Crisis website here.
